GENERAL RULES & REGULATIONS FOR
THE 14th DA DUN FINE ARTS EXHIBITION OF TAICHUNG CITY
1. Purpose:
To promote art creation and enhance international cultural exchange.
2. Organizers:
1) Supervisor: Council for Cultural Affairs, Taiwan
2) Organizer: Taichung City Government
3) Office-in-Charge: Taichung City Cultural Affairs Bureau and the Organizing
Committee of the 14th Da Dun Fine Arts Exhibition
3. Entrant Qualification:
1) The submitted art pieces must be original and of individual creation. The art
piece should be created within the past two years. Applicants can enter
different categories; however, each category allows only one submit ion.
2) The organizer reserves the right to disqualify the applicant who is found
copying, plagiarizing or assuming the identity of others for a consecutive
3-year period to participate in the Da Dun Fine Arts Exhibition.
3) Do not submit works which already won any prize in any art contest or have
been displayed in any open art exhibition (including part of same series).
4. Categories and Regulation:
(1) Crafts:
Format: Unlimited. Please seal the art piece with sturdy wooden box for
transportation and stick the photo of the art piece on the top of the box.
Size:
a. Flat (2 dimensional) works: Not exceeding 200cm (L) X 200cm (W)
(including mounting)
b. 3 dimensional works: Not exceeding 100cm (L) x 100cm (W) x
100cm(H). Please be noted that the woven works should not exceed
200cm (mentioned in as Flat Entries above). Delicate works are
strongly suggested to be fixed on a supportive stand in an acrylic
case (over 20cm in (L), (W) and (H)).
(2) Sculpture (Including 3 Dimensional Mixed Media Works):
Please package and post the work with a sturdy wood box for transportation
and stick the photo of art piece on the top of the box.
Size: Over 30cm in (L), (W) and (H) but not exceeding 240cm in (L), (W)
and (H).
Weight: Participant is requested to responsible for transportation and
display if the work exceeds 200kg
(3) Digital Art:
Please refer to relevant details in Term 5. Application Procedure noted
below.
(4) Photography:
The form of art work is limited to 20" ~ 24"/ 50cm ~ 61cm(length),and
no shorter than 15"/ 38cm(width) before mounting.
(5) Printmaking:
The size of all submitted works is required over octavo but not
exceeding 176cm x 142cm after mounting.
(6) Water Color Painting:
The size of all submitted works is required over folio size but not exceeding
176cm x 142cm after mounting.
(7) Oil Painting (Including Acrylic and Mixed Media):
The size of all submitted works is required from #30 to #80(maximum) and
not exceeding 176cm x 142cm after mounting(the rim can take up to
5cm each side).
(8) Glue Color Painting:
The size of all submitted works is required from #30 to #80(maximum) and
not exceeding 176cm x 142cm after mounting.
(9) Seal Engraving:
Please refer to relevant details in Term 5. Application Procedure noted
below.
(10) Calligraphy:
Framed/scrolled Limited to undivided piece of work not exceeding
230cm(length) x 120cm(width).
(11) Ink Wash Painting:
Framed or scrolled, less than 200cm (length) x 150cm (width), and
pictured center above folio only.
*For categories 4 ~ 11, the art pieces must be perfectly mounted (no glass
mounting allowed).
5. Application Procedure:
The contest includes two stages:
1) Preliminary Selection
Send all the following documents via registered mail to Taichung City
Cultural Affairs Bureau Arts Promotion Section, 600 Ying Tsai Rd., Taichung
City 40359, R.O.C. (Taiwan). Please note "THE 14th DA DUN FINE ARTS
EXHIBITION OF TAICHUNG CITY ○○ categories" on the envelope.
(1)Delivery Sheet:
Fill the relevant information in details with photo's)or print-out (in
digital art submissions ) attached. Incomplete or inappropriate
application forms will not be accepted.
(2)Photo or Print-Out:
a. One photo (or print-out) of work in 8"x10" size. Please make sure
the photos are clear and well-taken, or the print-outs are of high resolution.
b. For Sculpture, Crafts and Mixed Media works, in addition to the
standard photo of the art piece, photos (8" x 10") from four different
angles (the front, back, right & left) are required.
c. For Photography, works' sizes of 8" x 10", 8" x 12" and 10" x 10"
through computer's processing are all acceptable.
d. For Calligraphy, one additional zoom-in size of 8"x10" photo for each
piece is required.
e. For Seal Engravings, applicants should submit 5 to 10 pieces of
octavo motto paper (no mounting needed) with the seals stamped on
it. No photo is needed.
f. Digital Art (including static, dynamic, and interactive art works)
should be submitted in a CMYK 300dpi/TIFF or EPS format of picture
or print-out, and digital files of all art works must be submitted with
soft-copy and flat print-out instruction.
(3)Art piece will not be accepted if it doesn't meet the requirements.
(4) All documents, photo, and print-outs will not be returned. Please
keep one copy before mailing.
(5)Please obtain the Entry Form (including General Rules and Regulations
along with the Delivery Sheet) from the Taichung City Cultural Affairs
Bureau either in person or through correspondence (registered-mail
envelope with return postage required).

2) Final Selection
(1) Applicants will be notified of the outcome of the preliminary selection
by mail. Shortlist candidates must submit the original works for
final selection.
(2) For seal engravings, in addition to 10 to 20 original works contained
in brocade boxes, the seals must be stamped on motto paper which
is confined within 45cm x 150cm in the form of either a vertical scroll
or with mounting(frame linings may be added). Hand scrolls are not
acceptable.
(3) Digital Art:
a. The output of Static digital images should be in A0 (118.8cm x
84.1cm) size CMYK300dpi format with mounting. The work must
be saved as the complete electronic files in TIFF or EPS format, and
burned into CDs. CDs must be labeled with names of the art work
and its artist.
b. Non-static digital works must be submitted with complete digital
files and the lengths are within 10minuts and explanation of the work. Digital files must be burned into CDs which contain original
digital files and executable files. CDs must be labeled with names
of the art work and its artist. Candidates should set up special
devices or equipments to co-operate with final selection process, if
necessary. The installed space can not exceed over 240cm x
300cm x 300cm.
(4)Please submit the work before the deadline and a receipt will be issued
by the office-in-charge serving as a token for recovery.
3) Da Dun Prizes:
(1)The first prize-winner of each category is required to present 3
additional art pieces to the reviewing committee for selection of the
5 winners of the Da Dun Prizes.
(2)The original work of Da Dun Prizes shall be reserved by the Taichung
City Cultural Affairs Bureau as a permanent collection.

7. Prizes and Monetary Awards:
1) Da Dun Prize: 5 Da Dun Prize winners will be selected from all first prize
winners. Besides the first prize NT$100,000 monetary reward, each of the five winners of the Da Dun Prize shall receive monetary reward of
NT$100,000 (tax inclusive), one trophy, one certificate of merit and one
permanent collection certificate.
2) First Prize of Each Category (1 each): Monetary Award of NT$100,000 (tax
inclusive) and one certificate of merit.
3) Second Prize of Each Category (1 each): Monetary Award of NT$60,000
(tax inclusive) and one certificate of merit.
4) Third Prize of Each Category (1 each): Monetary Award of NT$40,000 (tax
inclusive) and one certificate of merit.
5) Award of Merit of Each Category (1-4 each, total numbers do not exceed
33): Monetary Award of NT$10,000 (tax inclusive) and one certificate of
merit.
6) Shortlist of Each Category (several each): One certificate of merit.
7) Honorary Award: Especially for foreign entries (excluding entries from PRC).
The selection will be made without regarding to categories. The selected
artists will be awarded certificates of merit.
8) Each winner will receive one published collection book of all works and
records of this exhibition.
9) The work which is awarded Award of Merit of Each Category and/or above
this year will be arranged for an exhibition abroad in 2010.
8. Exhibition Date of awarded art works:
1) Date: From Saturday, October 24 to Thursday, November 5, 2009.
2) Location: Da Dun Art Galleries 1-4 and Power Space, Taichung City Cultural
Affairs Bureau(Cultural Center), located at 600, Ying Tsai Rd., Taichung
City, Taiwan.
3) Return date: From Saturday, November 7 to Sunday, November 8, 2009.
9. Award Ceremony:
1) Date: Sunday morning, October 25, 2009.
2) Location: Chung-Shan Hall, Taichung City
10. Rights and Obligations:
1 ) The organizer reserves the rights to study, photograph, film, publish,
advertise and website posting, etc., the authors of all exhibited items shall
have no objection.
2) If the submitted work is mailed in the stage for final selection or Da Dun
Prize selection, please pack it carefully, the artists will be fully responsible
for any damage on their works incurred during the mailing process.
3) All the awards (including monetary award, trophy, and award certificate)
will be withdrawn and cancelled in the case of disqualifications discovered
later and the author shall be held liable to charges legally.
4) The offices-in-charge shall be responsible for safekeeping of the exhibited
works. However, the offices-in-charge shall take no responsibilities in case of any damage caused by elements beyond human factors.
5) Insurance: From the beginning date of receipt till the deadline date of
returning, the insured amount (maximum amount of indemnity) will be
NT$20,000 for each non-prize-winner, and NT$50,000 for each
prize-winner
6) The signature and seal affixed thereon the Delivery Sheet by the participant
shall be regarded as a consent to comply with the respective items of this
General Regulations.
7) For the purpose of permanent collection by the Taichung City Cultural
Affairs Bureau, the Da Dun Prize winning artist shall provide a letter of
guarantee for the authenticity and originality of his work.
11. Others:
1) All domestic winners of the exhibition from afar (North of Miaoli and South
of Yunlin) who wish to attend the award ceremony will be offered one-night
accommodation at a local hotel by the Taichung City Cultural Affairs
Bureau.
2) Foreign artists or artists from PRC who receive first three awards of each
category or Honorary Award and that wish to join the awarding ceremony
will be offered 3-night accommodation by the Taichung City Cultural Affairs
Bureau.
3) The shipping fee of returned work of foreign artists and artists from PRC will
be paid by office-in-charge.
4) Please use BLACK CAPTITAL to fill the application form. All application
forms and relevant writing should be completed in English clearly.
12. The Organizing Committee reserves the right to amend and/or supplement the
rules and regulations for the Exhibition. Any modification will be posted on our
