International Arte Laguna Prize
APPLICATIONS UNTIL DECEMBER 12th FOR THE 10th ARTE LAGUNA PRIZE
Swatch, Thetis SpA, Telecom Italia Future Centre, Riva 1920, Berengo Foundation are some of the collaborations of this edition
Applications open until December 12th, 2015 for the International Arte Laguna Prize which this year achieves an important goal: its tenth edition.
An important goal which demonstrates the way in which the art world draws attention in a particular way, which suffered and is suffering the crisis but anyway it wants to grow up; a goal which shows the appreciation for one of the major international contests achieved thanks to the continuous improvement research which is the prerequisite for a productive growth.
The tenth edition is characterized by significant international collaborations represented both by the companies and by the cultural world involved: there are 18 international partners which have supported the Arte Laguna project, among which companies like Swatch, Thetis SpA, Telecom Italia Future Centre, Riva 1920 and famous Foundations like Berengo and Foundry Battaglia.
The Arte Laguna Prize represents for the artists the opportunity to stand out and to be noticed by the public and to be evaluated by a jury composed of contemporary art world professionals and chaired by the curator Igor Zanti, who is also the director of IED Venice. In the jury there are directors of foundations and museums, independent curators, art critics: Miguel Amado (Portugal, Senior Curator at Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art in the UK); Anna Bernardini (Italy, Artistic Director of Collezione Panza); Barbara Boninsegna (Italy, Artistic Director of Centrale Fies – Centre for the performing arts production in Trento); Denis Curti (Italy, Artistic Director of Casa dei Tre Oci in Venice and of the Capri Photography Festival); Enrico Fontanari (Italy, Urban Planner, Professor of Urban and Landscape Design at IUAV University in Venice); Suad Garayeva (Azerbaijan, Curatorial Director of YARAT Contemporary Art Centre's exhibitions and permanent collection); Vasili Tsereteli (Russia, Executive Director of MMOMA - Moscow Museum of Modern Art); Sabrina Van der Ley (Norway, Director of the Contemporary Art department at the Nasjonalmuseet in Oslo); Simone Verde (Italy, Art Historian, Supervisor of scientific research and publications at the French agency France-Muséums, in charge of the creation of Abu Dhabi’s Louvre); Bettina von Dziembowski (Germany, Director of the Springhornhof Foundation & Art Association in Neuenkirchen).
The contest is open to artists worldwide with no thematic guidelines or any other restriction, the sections to which it is possible to apply with one or more artworks are: painting, photography, sculpture and installation, video art, performance, virtual and digital art, and since last year also land art, the latest section, launched in 2014 in collaboration with the Venetian engineering company Thetis SpA. The fact that the contest is open also to artists who work in the land art field makes the Arte Laguna Prize totally unique at both national and European level.
The finalists exhibition will take place in March 2016 in the prestigious venue of the Arsenale in Venice, hosting the main group show, and at the Telecom Italia Future Centre, accommodating the selection of digital works, the expression of art through new technologies.
Artists applying can win 6 cash prizes of € 7000 each, art residencies, exhibitions in international art galleries, participations to festivals and collaborations with companies.
COLLABORATIONS WITH COMPANIES
The “Business for Art” prizes realized in collaboration with the excellence of Made in Italy see the participation of Deglupta, a Venetian company that makes leather accessories painted by artists, and Riva 1920, a historic furniture company based in Cantù, which reuses Venetian "briccola" wood to create innovative furniture and design items.
ART RESIDENCIES
Seven residency programs at foundations and art centers: The Swatch Art Peace Hotel in Shanghai, Basu Foundation for the Arts in Calcutta, Espronceda in Barcelona, Taipei Artist Village, Artistic Serigraphy Fallani in Venice, Berengo Foundation in Murano, Artistic Foundry Battaglia in Milan.
ARTIST IN GALLERY
Realization of four solo exhibitions including setting up, transportation fees, publication of a digital catalogue at: Gaia Gallery, Istanbul, Galerie Isabelle Lesmeister, Regensburg, Galeria Fernando Santos, Porto, ART re.FLEX Gallery, St. Petersburg.
FESTIVALS AND COLLECTIVE EXHIBITIONS
Selection of 12 artists to participate in collective events: in Slovenia at the Art Stays Festival, in Beijing with the events organized by Art Nova 100, and in Venice at the International Exhibition of Sculptures and Installations - Open.
