The Yale Center for British Art (YCBA) is offering a two-year Postdoctoral Associate position in the Research Division with the possibility of renewal for a third year. This postdoctoral position is for candidates interested in developing teaching skills within the art museum environment. It is open to those who have completed a PhD in the field of art history, museology, cultural heritage, or a related field. Teaching experience at the university level and/or in a museum context is preferred. The candidate’s PhD must be completed by the time the position begins.compensation policies for postdoctoral appointments. The position’s start date is flexible. The Postdoctoral Associate will report to the Deputy Director for Research, contribute to the activities of the Research Division, and collaborate with colleagues across the museum. They will develop several courses related to museum history and practice for instructing museum professionals, faculty members, and both graduate and undergraduate students. Specific course objectives include a graduate seminar on the history and processes of the art museum exhibition; an undergraduate seminar on the role, function, and challenges of the art museum; and a course exploring topical and thematic approaches to the museum’s collections for YCBA staff. The postholder will devise the intellectual rubric, structure, and content of these modules, undertake research into the museum’s holdings, collaborate with the Curatorial and Education departments, and implement object-based teaching strategies. They will be supported by the Deputy Director for Research and will be able to draw on the expertise of museum professionals at Yale and beyond. The postholder will have access to the extensive resources at the YCBA to facilitate course development and their learning about the museum’s collections and British art and culture more broadly.
