Course description:
1. Light and colour, colour perception, colour relativity, afterimage phenomena. Colour systems as parts of general theories of the world, scientific colour theories. Primary colours, complementarity, contrasts and harmonies. Additive and subtractive mixing of colours, pigments and coloured light, space and colour.
2. The symbolism and language of colours, their effect on the human psyche. The visual logic of colour relations, composition analysis based on examples from the history of painting. Synesthesia. Colour film, photo and photogram.
The course is based on the theoretical writings, works and teaching practice of J. W. Goethe, Johannes Itten, Josef Albers and Harald Küppers, as well as on the course instructors? own experiences and personally held principles as painters.
