Graphics Department / Specialization in Graphic Arts
Graduate education in the Graphic Arts specialization focuses on the theoretical foundations and practical application of autonomous, printmaking, and functional graphic genres.
Teaching in drawing during the first four semesters is combined with courses introducing students to the basics of traditional printmaking techniques with intensive workshop assignments.
In the course of their specialized training, students, under the coordination of instructors, shape their graphic program at their own discretion to suit their personal needs. A diploma work prepared during the fifth year — which can consist of free drawing, a series produced by a reproduction technique, a folder of drawings, illustrations, or graphic installation — serves to gauge graduating student’s proficiency in the field.
Thanks to the ongoing development of departmental workshops, we have all the necessary apparatus in place for relief printing, intaglio printing, and planography. The screen printing shop employs the latest, environmentally friendly technologies. These facilities are complemented by a well-equipped photo lab and computer work stations. The Kondor Béla Gallery, operated by the Department, provides a home for monthly graphics exhibitions.
